Katie began playing the cello when she was just three years old. She was a scholarship student in the Young Artists Performance Academy at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In 2010, Katie graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance from the University of Calgary where she studied with cellist John Kadz. Under his tutelage, she also completed an Advanced Performers Diploma at Mount Royal University in Calgary.

Her music has taken her across the country and all over the world, participating in music festivals in Italy and China where she studied with some of the finest cellists in North America, Europe and Asia.  She has been a National finalist in numerous music competitions including the Canadian Music Competition and the TD Canada Trust Young Performers’ Competition. She has performed as a soloist with the University of Calgary Symphony Orchestra, and as a substitute cellist with the Regina Symphony Orchestra.

Katie is very passionate about teaching. During her time in Calgary, in addition to her private teaching studio, she was the cello and theory teacher of the Calgary chapter of the El Sistema Program, which provides after school music lessons to underprivileged children throughout Calgary. She is currently pursuing an Honors Degree in Psychology at the University of Waterloo and is very interested in combining her passion for music with psychological music cognition research.
She has enjoyed working with cello students ages three to sixty, from beginner to advanced students!
